6G is the next big thing in the telecommunications industry, the forthcoming age of ubiquitous connectivity is promised not only to enhance 5G use cases, but also bring the world into a new era of connectivity. Particularly exciting is the suggestion that 6G global networks will offer speeds of one Tetrabyte per second, making use cases such as Network as a Sensor, Autonomous Vehicles and Intelligent Machine Communication a reality. However, with returns now being seen from heavy 5G investment, are we getting ahead of ourselves? Many experts say no. It is normal to prepare for the next generation up to 10 years in advance, and with 6G basic expected to appear in 3GPP’s Release 21, now is the time to start preparing.
